AIS Designs is the brainchild of Chris and Karen. Chris runs a computer consulting and repair business while Karen teaches middle school science after initially starting out in the interior design world.
After purchasing a 3D printer to print custom hard drive brackets for his business, Chris decided to branch out with his design work. He has a background in industrial engineering and is constantly looking for ways to improve the things around him.
Once the laser engraver was added to their repertoire, the possibilities were endless. Chris started making hall passes for Karen and other teachers, etching garden markers for the school vegetable garden, and personalized whiteboard erasers for student whiteboards. When their oldest son got engaged, Chris and Karen designed save the date cards and personalized golf pencils to send out.
Proud Mississippi State University alums, Chris and Karen were elated when their youngest chose to attend MSU as well (Hail State!). He makes it third generation on both sides of the family - quite the feat! As a Christmas gift one year, they collaborated on a design for his own cowbell to ring at football games. Some of his classmates reached out and asked for their own personalized cowbells after seeing his. Karen made custom Code Red curtains for her classroom and immediately was asked by other teachers if she could make college themed Code Red curtains for them as well. The college accessories side of AIS Designs was created.
Chris and Karen are active in their local ARES chapter and other radio groups. Chris got to talking with a few other members who complained about how easy it was to knock over their radios while deployed. He immediately got to work coming up with an attractive way to stabilize the radios, creating a stand that is difficult to knock over. The stands are labeled with the make and model of radio it was designed for and the owner’s call sign.
